Hey, thanks for the info, SkyDawg! It was the 2-24-68 show that I was listening to, when Billy takes just two songs off (The Other One and New Potato Caboose), but I just listened to The Other One from 11-22, and it has that same more open drumming sound as when it was just Mickey on 2-24. The sound quality's so bad that I couldn't be 100% sure (which is why I only listened to that one number even though the playing was dynamite), but Deadlists states categorically that Billy was sick.

The other show around that time that I see some have claimed had only Mickey was 12-7-68 at Bellarmine College, but I'm listening to The Other One from that night, and it sounds to me like the typical chugging, two-drum sound. The SBD is practically mono, which may be why some have heard just the one drummer. But there are enough places when it sounds to my ear like two guys almost but not quite in sync with each other that I'm pretty sure Billy was there.

EDIT: Clearly two drummers in 13-jam in New Potato Caboose on 12-7-68, so it looks like it's just 11-22-68 and those two songs from 2-24-68, unless anyone else has another show to add.

Deadlists notes on 12/7/68:
Jerry asks for requests from the audience. When someone requests Alligator, Jerry says, "We're not going to do Alligator because one of our drummers, uh - broke down."

Maybe it was a show like 2/24/68 where Bill sat out part of it?
It's funny that on this little midwest tour, we have only the first and last shows, and in both of them there are questions about Bill's presence....

PS - While we're on the two-drummer question, does anyone hear two drummers in the 10/22/67 show?

Do you remember when in the show that happens? Maybe Bill or Mickey sat out at some point after New Potato Caboose.

I think it's after Hurts Me Too. I don't have time to listen myself, though...

After another listen to 12/7/68, it is definitely two drummers in the first set (up to NPC), but it sounds like there may be only one in the second set.
After Hurts Me Too, Garcia does say they won't do Alligator because "one of our drummers broke down. We can't do it...but we can do Morning Dew, I guess."
That would help explain why the second set's cut so short!

Thanks, LiA--I'm just glad they were able to find spare parts in time for the next show.
